Hair & Scalp Tips to make it through Winter

Hair & Scalp Tips to make it through Winter

The Winter months can be tough on your hair & scalp. The air outside is colder & when you are inside you are normally in heating, so it is drier. We also tend to have the water hotter in the shower, which isn’t good for the hair & we still do all our normal styling with our hot tools.

Even though winter can be brutal on your hair, you can do a few things to ensure you still have amazing hair & no flaky scalp, here’s some tips to help you & your hair make it through this season.

  1. Avoid styling products with alcohol during the winter because alcohol is drying to the hair, lots of moisture & cream based thermal protector
  2. Make sure you don’t leave your hair wet & cold. When hair’s wet it’s more vulnerable and prone to break. Why’s that? The water droplets left in hair can enter the hair shaft & when the water gets too cold it swell the shaft
  3. If you have a little bit of dry scalp, try have your shower a little bit cooler when washing your hair & invest in a good shampoo to help with dry scalp but won’t strip your colour
  4. Try & gently towel dry your hair before using a blow-dryer, taking as much moisture out of your hair beforehand, and then try not to over dry your hair.
  5. It’s important to ensure you are getting extra vitamins in winter that help your hair & skin, such as Iron, vitamin D, vitamin C & omega-3
  6. Go a little bit darker for winter, as much as we love bright blonde, toning it down a little bit & giving your hair a break from lightening will help a lot.
  7. Do overnight oil treatments on your hair & scalp, This will work wonders on your scalp & your hair, leaving them both really moisturised.
